Chart Toppers 1965

This week in 1965 the Billboard Album and Hot 100 charts were topped by the 2 most successful acts in Billboard chart history.

The Hot 100 singles chart was topped by the Beatles and "I Feel Fine" which ended 1964 at #1 and spent the first 2 weeks of 1965 in the same spot.  This was the first of a then record 6 consecutive #1 singles in the US for the Beatles, a record matched by the Bee Gees in 1979 and surpassed by Whitney Houston in 1988.
The album that produced "I Feel Fine" would hit #1 on the album chart the second week of January in 1965 replacing Elvis' "Roustabout" (see below).

The Top 200 Album Chart saw Elvis Presley at #1 with the soundtrack to his movie "Roustabout".  This was Elvis' 21st album and no one knew it at the time but this would be the last soundtrack album of Elvis' to top the chart and his last album of any kind to reach #1 until 1973 when his "Aloha From Hawaii : Via Satellite" would hit #1.
