Released in May 1972 this song finally reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 on December 9th.  After originally peaking at #97 she fell out of the Hot 100, but bounced back onto the charts in September and reached the mountain top 3 months later.

Almost Persuaded

Today would have been the 78th birthday of David Houston.

David Houston held, until 2012, the record for most weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot Country (Country and Western back then) chart for a solo act, with his song "Almost Persuaded".

He was at the top for 9 consecutive weeks, from August through October 1966

The song also won the Grammy for Best Country and Western Song for 1966

This was the bestselling single in the UK for 2006.  It went to #1 on the Official UK Top 40 and stayed there for 9 weeks.  This was the first single to top the UK chart on download sales only.   
"Crazy" reached one million downloads in 2011.

In 1960 only one song sold a million copies in the UK.

It's Now or Never - Elvis Presley


Elvis spent 8 weeks atop the UK Official Chart with "It's Now or Never" and it was his biggest selling single of all time with over 25 million copies worldwide.  This entered the UK Chart at #1 on November 3rd 1960.  Rereleased in January 2005 it once again went to #1 in the UK, this time for a single week.
