#1 Song of the Week
Our #1 song of the week celebrates the birth of one of the all time best singer/songwriters, Jim Croce.
Born today in 1943 in South Philadelphia he was not an overnight success by any stretch of the imagination. He worked for years in night clubs and small gigs while working construction to pay the bills.
In 1972 he signed a 3 record deal and put out 2 albums that same year, "Life & Times" and "You Don't Mess Around with Jim".
He had his biggest success with the first single off "Life & Times" with "Bad Bad Leroy Brown" which hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed for 2 weeks in July 1972.
Sadly he would not get to enjoy the success and fame he had worked so hard for as he and musical partner Marty Muehleisen were tragically killed in a crash on the way to another concert, September 20 1973.
