AT40 the 70s April 28th 2012

This week there are 2 verisons of the broadcast and depending on where you listen you will either get the originally scheduled April 28th 1979 or the newly added special from March 25th 1972.  That broadcast had guest host, the legendary Dick Clark.  This should be great to hear since we dont get any of the special guest host episodes on the normal broadcast shows.
I will bring both countdowns from the 70s and then the AT40 the 80s which is from April 26th 1980.

Stay tuned!

Original vs Remake #27

Our song tonight is in tribute to the recently passed Levon Helm of The Band.

We have their song "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" which was the B side of "Up On Cripple Creek" and was released in November of 1969.   Levon was the lead singer on both of these songs and "Dixie" was written by bandmate Robbie Robertson and was a staple of their concerts.
It was performed for the last time with Helm singing in 1976 as part of their farewell concert (as seen in this video from "The Last Waltz) and he never sang it again.

In 1971 Joan Baez recorded her version and went to #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in October of that year and spent 5 weeks in the #1 spot on the Easy Listening chart.
