Bob Seger's 11th album and 3rd with the Silver Bullet Band is his only #1 on the Billboard Album chart and knocked off the biggest selling album of 1980 out of #1, The Wall by Pink Floyd,
It also won 2 Grammy Awards at the 1981 show, "Best Recording Package" and
"Best Rock Performance By a Duo or Group with Vocal".
Three songs from the album reached  Billboard's Top 40, "Against The Wind" #5, "Fire Lake" #6, and "You'll Accomp'ny Me" #14.

#1 Song of the Week

This week we go back 23 years to August of 1987, the soundtrack to Beverly Hills Cop II was in the top ten and Bob Seger was on top of the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for the first and to date last time with "Shakedown"
Over 20 years in the music business and having recorded some of the biggest albums in rock n roll history had not got Bob Seger to the top of the pop singles chart. He had a brush with the top when the single "Shame on the Moon" went to #2 for 4 weeks in March of 1983.
Originally meant for Glenn Frey, who came down with laryngitis and backed out, a call to Bob Seger by the president of MCA records secured the first single for the soundtrack.
On August 1st 1987 Bob Seger finally reached the summit and for one week had the best selling song in the USA.

Today (May 6th) in Music History

2002 - 'Bohemian Rhapsody' by Queen was voted the UK's favourite single of all time in a poll by the Guinness Hit Singles book. 'Imagine' by John Lennon was voted in at No.2 and 'Hey Jude', The Beatles No.3, 'Dancing Queen' by Abba was fourth and Madonna 'Like A Prayer' was in fifth place.
