Original vs Remake #24

From 1972 Harold Melvin and The Bluenotes went to #3 on the Hot 100 and reached #1 on the R&B charts with "If You Don't Know Me By Now". Written and produced by music legends Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff.

In 1986 the british group Simply Red had success with the song "Holding Back the Years", they reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #2 on the UK Charts, after 3 years of middling success they hit a veritable jackpot with the remake of "If You Don't Know Me By Now".  They reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Adult Contemporary Charts, Australian Top 40, The Canadian Top 40 and New Zealand, while getting #2 again on the UK Top 100 singles chart.
