The Greatest of All-Time 60th Anniversary Billboard Country Songs rankings are based on weekly performance on the Hot 100
(from its inception on Aug. 4, 1958, through July 21, 2018).
Songs are ranked based on an inverse point system, with weeks at No. 1 earning the greatest value and weeks at lower spots earning the least. Due to changes in chart methodology over the years, eras are weighted differently to account for chart turnover rates during various periods.

Glen Campbell R.I.P.

August 8th 2017

Glen Campbell died after a long battle with alzheimers disease.  His work in country and pop music is legendary.  As a studio musician and member of the famed Wrecking Crew he appeared on just about every top 10 pop hit of the 1960s.  His tv variety show "The Goodtime Hour" will be forever remembered for showcasing young pop acts along side legends of the music industry to appeal to all music fans.

The program featured footage from the Bee Gees' July 10, 1979 concert in Oakland, California captured by a film crew that accompanied them during their 1979 Spirits Having Flown Tour. Spending 1 week at the top of Billboard 200 album chart at the end of 1968 it spent 4 more weeks at #1 in 1969.  Also the #1 country album of 1969 (20 weeks at #1) with at the time Glen Campbell's single, the title track "Wichita Lineman".  That single reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped Hot Country Chart for one week in December of 1969.

This week's song I picked because of sad announcement that Glen Campbell has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.   He getting ready to tour and it will now be his farewell tour, but his wife wanted people to know that if he messes up and flubs words or forgets things its due to Alzheimer's and not to his notorious bouts with alcoholism.

The first #1 album on the Billboard 200 for this legendary soul/RB group from Ohio.
They had success in the early sixties with hits like "This Old Heart of Mine", "Twist and Shout" and then the #2 smash in 1969 "Its Your Thing".
The 70s saw their biggest R&B success and then they hit the top of the album chart for the first time with "The Heat is On" and this weeks #6 song "Fight the Power, Part I" which peaked at #4.
This would be their last #1 Pop album until 2003 when they topped the 200 with Body Kiss for one week.
