On the way to being the Wilson sisters first #1 song on the Hot 100


3 - How Will I Know - Whitney Houston
Former #1 hit that spent 2 weeks at the top



2 - Sara - Starship
Heading to the top and becoming the 2nd #1 single for the newly renamed Starship, previously known as Jefferson Starship and before that Jefferson Airplane.



1 - Kyrie - Mr. Mister
In its 2nd of 2 weeks at #1, this was the second #1 for the group after "Broken Wings" hit the top in December of 1985.

Changing things up a little this week its Top of The Pops for this week in 1987 in the UK.


5 - China in Your Hands - T'Pau
Making a huge leap from 19 last week to 5 this week on its way to the top. This is the best known song of the group in the UK and spent 5 weeks at #1.


4 - Love in The First Degree - Bananarama
After peaking at #3 this singles drops to #4. The biggest selling UK single for the UK group.


3 - Whenever You Need Somebody - Rick Astley
Jumping 8 spots this week and peaking at #3 is a song not released in the US.


2 - Faith - George Michael
Hold and peaking at #2 with what would be come the best selling single of 1988 in the US.


1 - You Win Again - Bee Gees

This song is in its 4th week at #1 and helped the Bee Gees become the first group to have a UK #1 in each of the last 3 decades (60s,70s & 80s).

After peaking at #3 the boys begin a slow fall down the charts


4 - You Were On My Mind - We Five
On its way to peaking at #3


3 - Eve of Destruction - Barry McGuire
On the way to #1, this anthem of anti war would top the charts for one week.


2 - Like a Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan
His first top 10 single peaked for 2 weeks at #2.


1 - Help! - The Beatles

The 2nd of 3 weeks at the top of the charts for the biggest group in history of recorded music. This is their 9th #1 single in 20 months, they would top the chart again in 3 weeks.

Top of The Pops - 40 Years Ago


Marking the 33rd anniversary of the passing of the King of Rock n Roll Elvis Presley.

These are the Top 5 singles in the UK for this week in 1970 and as usual for the UK its very eclectic but very interesting.

5 - All Right Now - Free
Paul Rodgers and the boys with a rock classic



4 - Something - Shirley Bassey
Covering the Beatles #1 hit is the woman who gained fame singing the theme to 3 classic James Bond movies.


3 - Neanderthal Man - Hot Legs
Peaking at #2 this was the only hit for a group would soon relaunch itself as 10cc.



2 - Lola - The Kinks
Peaking this week at #2 are the Kinks. They reached #9 on the Billboard US Hot 100.
It did hit #1 on the Dutch, Irish, Italian and New Zealand pop charts.


1 - The Wonder of You - Elvis Presley
The 16th UK #1 hit for the King.
Spending 6 weeks at the top in the summer of 1970. The B side was "Mama Like Roses" and the double sided hit reached #9 in the US.

Peaking in the #2 spot


1- Vogue - Madonna
2nd of 2 weeks at the top for her 8th #1 single.
