Adele's 21 this week breaks the record for the longest run at #1 by a female artist since The Billboard 200 album chart became a weekly feature in 1956.21 logs its 21st week on top with a Grammy-fueled sales tally of 730,000 copies. The old record was held by Whitney Houston, whose The Bodyguard soundtrack held the top spot for 20 weeks in 1992-1993.
Adele is starting to close in on another record that Houston has held since 1986: the longest run at #1 on Billboard's Top Music Videos chart by a female artist. Adele's Live At The Royal Albert Hall is about to log its 12th week at #1. Houston's The #1 Video Hits held the top spot for 22 weeks in 1986

Original vs Parody #1

Our first look at Original vs Parody will feature someone who will probably be a regular, "Weird" Al Yankovic.

The original was a #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 for 2 weeks in 2006 while peaking at #2 in the UK.

"Ridin" by Chamillionaire

The parody surpassed the original by getting over 50 million more views on Youtube and the highest charting single for Weird Al, #9 on the Billboard Hot 100, since "Eat It" reached #12 in 1984.  This also became Weird Al's first single to be certified platinum for sales over 1 million.

Original vs Remake #25

"The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia"

Written by Bobby Russell in 1972 this was offered to Cher but manager/husband Sonny Bono turned it down it was left on the shelf as Russell didn't even want to cut a demo.  His then wife, actress Vicki Lawrence decided she wanted to record it because she knew it sounded like a hit song.    She recorded it and it was released by MCA and soon hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for 2 weeks in April of 1973.

In 1991 Reba McEntire covered the song for her album For My Broken Heart and it reached #12 on the Billboard Hot Country Chart.
