It was a double album that yielded one top 40 single with "Hungry Heart", which reached #5 on the Hot 100.


(a personal note on this video, I found several clips of this song being done live in concert but the first 2 verses were sung by the crowd. Now this is a pet peeve of mine and why I dont do concerts anymore. I did not pay to sing nor to hear the 10 people around me sing, I paid to here the guy on stage! So I finally found this "video" of the the song where its all sung by Bruce Springsteen).

#1 Song of the Week


This weeks song goes back to this day in 1993 when Meatloaf had his first #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Top 40.
The song he took to the top was "I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Wont Do That)". Meatloaf spent 5 weeks at the top of the Billboard chart and 7 weeks on the UK Top 40, becoming the UK's #1 single of 1993.

Today in Music History November 8th

1947 - Born on this day, Minnie Riperton
(1975 US No.1 & UK No.2 with the Stevie Wonder produced single 'Loving You').
Died of cancer 12th July 1979.


1952 - The first ever UK pop chart was published by the New Musical Express after staff asked 53 record shops to divulge their sales returns.
‘Here In My Heart’ by Al Martino was the first No.1. The song stayed at No.1 for nine weeks.


1963 - Spending his last of 5 consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 is Jimmy Gilmer and The Fireballs with Sugar Shack.


1969 - 'Something' the first Beatles A-side composed by George Harrison entered the UK singles chart, it peaked at No.4 in the UK and went on to be a No.1 on the US chart.


1975 - Elton John’s album, Rock of the Westies, debuted at #1 on US album charts. It was his second album to jump on the chart at number one.
Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy
had debuted at #1 six months earlier. Tracks on Rock of the Westies: Medley (Yell Help, Wednesday Night, Ugly), Dan Dare (Pilot of the Future), Island Girl, Grow Some Funk Of Your Own, I Feel Like a Bullet (In the Gun of Robert Ford), Street Kids, Hard Luck Story, Feed Me, Billy Bones and the White Bird.

Changing things up a little this week its Top of The Pops for this week in 1987 in the UK.


5 - China in Your Hands - T'Pau
Making a huge leap from 19 last week to 5 this week on its way to the top. This is the best known song of the group in the UK and spent 5 weeks at #1.


4 - Love in The First Degree - Bananarama
After peaking at #3 this singles drops to #4. The biggest selling UK single for the UK group.


3 - Whenever You Need Somebody - Rick Astley
Jumping 8 spots this week and peaking at #3 is a song not released in the US.


2 - Faith - George Michael
Hold and peaking at #2 with what would be come the best selling single of 1988 in the US.


1 - You Win Again - Bee Gees

This song is in its 4th week at #1 and helped the Bee Gees become the first group to have a UK #1 in each of the last 3 decades (60s,70s & 80s).

Three singles were released from the album including this weeks #2 next week's #1 song "Heartache Tonight" , the #8 hit "I Can't Tell You Why" and the #7 title track "The Long Run".

The first single from the album is "Stuck Like Glue" and it debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 in August at #20, making it the highest debut for a country duo or group on the Hot 100.

Today in Music History November 3rd

1957 - Sun Records released 'Great Balls Of Fire' by Jerry Lee Lewis.
The single went on to sell over five million copies worldwide, a No.1 in the UK & No.2 in the US.


1973 - David Bowie scored his second UK No.1 album when 'Pinups' started a five-week run at the top of the charts.
The set contained Bowie covering his favourite 60's songs; his version of The Mersey's 'Sorrow' made No.3 on the UK singles chart.


1979 - One hit wonder M went to No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Pop Muzik'.
M was Robin Scott who scored one other UK top 40 hit, 'Pop Muzik' made No.2 in the UK.




1984 - Paul McCartney went to No.1 on the UK album chart with the film soundtrack to 'Give My Regards To Broad Street', featuring the UK No.2 single 'No More Lonely Nights.'


1990 - 25 years after their version was recorded, The Righteous Brothers went to No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'Unchained Melody'.
The track had been featured in the Patrick Swayze film Ghost. Written by Alex North and Hy Zaret, 'Unchained Melody' is one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century, with over 500 versions in hundreds of different languages.



2002 -Lonnie Donegan, died mid-way through a UK tour and shortly before he was due to perform at a memorial concert for George Harrison with The Rolling Stones.
He was aged 71. Donegan who launched the skiffle craze in the UK had the 1959 hit ‘Does Your Chewing Gum Lose Its Flavour’, the 1960 UK No.1 single 'My Old Man's A Dustman', 'Rock Island Line', plus over 30 other UK Top 40 singles.
