American Country Countdown - October 6th 1973

American Country Countdown
October 6th 1973 with Don Bowman.
This was the very first episode of ACC, even though Don doesn't really make a note of that, and makes it sound like it's just another episode.
Ray Price hit #1 for the very last time, with a song that would be a hit for Gladys Knight on AT40 the following year.
This show also features several "Future Hits" that were just outside the 40 or brand new, like Charlie Rich's future #1.
Songs have been clipped to avoid copyright violations.

Don Williams R.I.P.

September 8th 2017

One of the greatest voices in American country music, Don Williams, known to many as "the Gentle Giant" died today at the age of 78.   He announced in March of 2016 that he was retiring from touring to spend time at his home and enjoy his family.  He passed quietly (like his persona) at his home among family.
He amassed 17 #1 songs on the Billboard Country songs chart and 13 on the Canadian country music chart with his last being "Back in My Younger Days", which reached #2 on the Billboard chart and #1 in Canada in 1990.

May 3rd 1979
Don Williams (L) with Claude Akins who presented him his 2 CMA Awards for Song and Record of the Year for 1978, "Tulsa Time".
