#1 Song of the Week - Good Vibrations

This week in 1966,  "Good Vibrations" debuted in the Billboard Top 40 at #38, after entering the Hot 100 the previous week at #81.
This was a departure from what the world had come to expect from the Beach Boys and would soon become a classic.  This was what Brian Wilson's publicist called a "pocket Symphony".

"Good Vibrations" reached #1 on the Hot 100 the week of December 10th for one week and was their 3rd #1 single after "I Get Around" and "Help Me, Rhonda".
The Beach Boys also got their first #1 single on the Official UK chart with this smash for 2 weeks in November of 1966.

Take Me Home, Country Roads
(written by John Denver, Taffy Nivert, Bill Danoff)

John Denver reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #5 in Canada with this 1971 single from his album Poems, Prayers and Promises.

In 1973 Olivia Newton-John released her version of Take Me Home, Country Roads and went to #15 in the UK and Top 10 in Japan but never cracked the Hot 100 in the US.
