In the previous post I have the top 10 singles for this week in 1972 on the Billboard Hot 100, now I would like to use my Top of the Pops countdown for the same week on the UK Top chart.
August 26th 1972 UK Top 5
5 - Sea Side Shuffle - Terry Dactyl and the Dinosaurs
a novelty band created for the group Brett Marvin and the Thunderbolts to promote this single. They took it to #2 the week before.
4 - All The Young Dudes - Mott the Hoople
Written by David Bowie this single was on its way to peaking at #3.
3 - Silver Machine - Hawkwind
Peaking at #3 is the hard rock group Hawkwind.
They were precursor to the punk scene in England and had a "psychadelic space opera" theme to their albums.
2 - You Wear It Well - Rod Stewart
Rod the Mod on his way to #1 next week with this single from his album "Never A Dull Moment".
1 - School's Out - Alice Cooper
The only #1 song in the UK and the US for Alice Cooper
He spent three weeks a the top and would make it to #7 on the Billboard Hot 100.
