The 1979 Grammy Awards

Today in 1980 the 22nd Annual Grammy Awards were handed out for 1979 at Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California and broadcast live on CBS.
This was a big year for The Doobie Brothers and their biggest hit "What A Fool Believes" Winning Record of The Year for the group and producer Ted Templeman.
Song of The Year Grammy for the writers Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald with McDonald also winning a Grammy for Best Arrangement Accompanying Vocalists. The album which the single appeared, Minute by Minute, won the Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Performance by a Duo,Group or Chorus.


The Grammy for Album of The Year went to Billy Joel for "52nd Street"


The 22nd Grammy Awards also gave out the only Grammy for Best Disco Recording. This was a new award and it went to Gloria Gaynor for "I Will Survive". The award was discontinued before the next Grammy's due to the backlash against disco.

The Grammy for Best Country Song went to the writers of the Kenny Rogers hit "You Decorated My Life"

Kenny took home the award for Best Country Vocal Performance Male for "The Gambler"
